Week 14 #2

Reading the articles “Response to Intervention” (Mesmer and Mesmer, 2008) has given me a deep understanding of the ways in which to teach and assess literacy. I also learned about the complications that can come up when one teaches and assesses literacy and learned about various solutions to those problems. In the article, “Response to Intervention (RTI): What Teachers of Reading Need to Know” the RTI process is clearly defined. Week 14 #1

Implications of RTI: The article about the implications of RTI considers what the role of the reading teacher might play in the process. Reading professionals could help improve classroom reading through making sure to attend professional developments, coaching, or mentoring. When they are on a professional caliber, reading professionals have the power to provide high quality reading interventions that raise the bar of student achievement. Instruction provided must coordinate carefully with classroom reading, be based on student performance results, emphasize the learning needs of the student and increase the amount of teaching the student receives. Must important, the instruction should be adjusted to student reading level and also be sufficient in intensity so that results can be shown.

Week 12 Assignment #1

As a teacher I welcome technology in my classroom. I believe that technology in the classroom is not only necessary to engage students, but it is an essential tool for the future. Being that there exist many technological tools that can help teachers prepare curriculum and students achieve desired goals, I feel that educators must embrace the opportunity. Since literacy is such an integral subject, educators must harness technology and use it to promote the learning of literacy. The web is full of wonderful applications which can be used to help students learn the English language. some of the technological tools I would use in my classroom is having students create and communicate through blogging. I would have my students keep their work organized in an E-portfolio. When teaching Literacy, I would have students create digital stories and I would also use various publishing tools like PowerPoint, Jing and Prezi. I believe that students and teachers stand to gain a lot when in...
