Week 12 Assignment #1

As a teacher I welcome technology in my classroom. I believe that technology in the classroom is not only necessary to engage students, but it is an essential tool for the future. Being that there exist many technological tools that can help teachers prepare curriculum and students achieve desired goals, I feel that educators must embrace the opportunity. Since literacy is such an integral subject, educators must harness technology and use it to promote the learning of literacy. The web is full of wonderful applications which can be used to help students learn the English language. some of the technological tools I would use in my classroom is having students create and communicate through blogging. I would have my students keep their work organized in an E-portfolio. When teaching Literacy, I would have students create digital stories and I would also use various publishing tools like PowerPoint, Jing and Prezi.        QRI-5, Qualitive Reading Inventory-5, is an assessment method used to determine a child’s independent, instructional and frustration level. It is given to students in the most unofficial manner. students are given word lists and a few passages which determine the child’s ability to identify words, and the child’s comprehension skills. This method helps teachers determine what level text to use in the classroom, determine whether a child needs extra help, and group students properly for reading sessions.       The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of procedures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills.
